PIPES BCN is a research project, leadered by Hangar in collaboration with UOC, in the framework of the European project PIPES.
‘Pipes Bcn’ (Participatory Investigation of Public Engaging Spaces) aims to generate a common, transversal and critical state of the art about visual interfaces focusing on three crossed perspectives: society, design and art.
Gathering international and local experts on communication, cultural studies, art, interface design, data visualization and storytelling, PIPES BCN will pay special attention on ethical, aesthetical, philosophical and social aspects such as universality/subjectivity, transparency/concealment, privacy/publicness. A dialogue between praxis and theoretical approaches will be motivated by the design of the activities, involving artists, programmers, designers, thinkers, scholars and university students.
Critical approaches, deep analysis and transdisciplinary projects will be shown through workshops, round tables and a residency distributed in three main modules running along the project duration.
PIPES BCN is designed and hosted by Hangar (Center For Visual Arts Research and Production) together with the UOC (Universtiat Oberta de Catalunya- Studies of Informatics, Multimedia and Telecommunications), in the framework of the European project PIPES (Participatory Investigation of Public Engaging Spaces) in collaboration with Ciant (Prague) and ZKM (Karlsruhe).
The research team are Quelic Berga Carreras, Laia Blasco Soplón, Andreu Belsunces Gonçalves and Clara Piazuelo Lamote de Grignon.
